KARLAN JUDD

Karlan's music and lyrics have been performed across the United States and in Canada.  His most recent musical is CHEER WARS, inspired by Shakespeare's Henry IV part one and the Wanda Holloway store (The Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom).  Music from CHEER WARS was recently featured at the National Alliance for Music Theater's Emerging Writers Showcase.  His one act musical, MRS. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON played at the Laurie Beechman Theatre in Manhattan and the Edgemar Center for the Arts in Santa Monica.  Other musicals include LEMONADE, HUNGER, STILL LIFES FROM THE DONNER PARTY EXPEDITION (finalist 2007 Stages and Playfest), THE CASE OF THE B-TEAM CHEERLEADER, I'M HERE, THE RAT KING and others.  He has worked as a composer, conductor, orchestrator, music copyist and vocalist with artists like Annie Golden, Jake Heggie, Kent Nagano, Susan Egan, Rosemary Clooney, and Sara Brightman.  He was conductor of West Coast Singers from 2003 - 2006, receiving several artistic grants and performing in venues throughout Southern California and Montreal, Quebec.  His choral music is published by Yelton-Rhodes Music (www.yrmusic.com).  Awards include the Roothbert Scholars Award, The Elaine Krowne Klein Fine Arts Award, and the Moremen Conducting Award.  Karlan has a Master of Fine Arts degree from the prestigious Tisch School of the Arts Musical Theater Writing Program and a Master of Music degree in Conducting from UCLA.
